The World of Depression

Depression can be a world, from which its sufferers feel there is no return. Depression, like anxiety, comes in a variety of shapes and sizes. In fact, depression and anxiety go hand in hand and usually partner together to make your life, at times, a misery. Depression usually also pals around with substance use and there is rarely a time when substances are not used by individuals trying to lessen the pain that comes from depression. Like any other mental health issue, depression is not as simple as saying a person is depressed if he is 'sad.' Depression is a diagnoseable disorder, recognized by professionals as occurring in at least 15% of the population.
As with most mental health conditions, depression is a manageable disorder. Professional psycotherapists, usually in conjunction with a licensed psychiatrist work together, using a combination of medication and specialized psychotherapy to assist the client in mood elevation and gaining the coping skills necessary to live a content, happy life free of depression's darkness. Many options to achieve the manageability of depression are now at our disposal.
